Brewery Build - Pt 6 Running the HERMS Wizard

Brewery Build - Pt 6 Running the HERMS Wizard
The finished HERMs dashboard, just a few clicks away.

Ok, now that we've got this far, it's pretty straight forward. Just run the Quick Start wizard again and select HERMs to step through a similar process as before. In step 1 below make sure you Keep Blocks. The next steps are

  1. A list of known hardware blocks - don't change anything, click Next
  2. This screen allows you to change the HERMs dashboard name and prefixes. I left them as-is and clicked the down arrow beside Generated names
  3. The full list of generated names with prefix applied. Click Next
  4. On this screen (middle of center row) you assign hardware block names to the dashboard device names using the mappings we created when we built the physical system and hardware block names we assigned in Pt 4. Click Next when you're finished
  5. A final check that you have the heating elements correctly assigned. Once you're happy click Next
  6. On this screen you can select whether to have your two heating elements run mutually exclusive or not. This is a useful feature if you're running both heating elements off a single electrical circuit and do not want to overload it. As I have each electrical cabinet powered from a separate 16A circuit in my home, I disabled the mutex setting.
  7. In this screen you can configure each of the 3 PIDS. This is a key feature of this system and one we'll come back to later. For now, I've left everything stock.
  8. The final screen runs the builder which creates the dashboard, all the of the PIDS and PWMs, and all the logic behind that.

Now if you go back to your Spark 3 service, the configured system looks like this with relationships established between temp sensors and digital actuators (SSR blocks) through Setpoints which drive PIDS and PWMs. And all of this is highly customizable, plus you can add as many fermentation fridges or brewery setups to the Spark as you like, up to the limit of 100 hardware devices.
